Four Fresh Beach Activities For Kids

Our secluded, white sandy beaches make it easy for families to spend the whole day at the shore. Our stretch of Melbourne beach rests along Florida’s famous Space Coast. It’s free of concrete high rises and the perfect place to unwind.

Sandcastles are always fun to build at the beach, but if you are looking for some fresh ideas, try one of these beach games that will engage the whole family:

Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of objects that could be spotted at the beach. These items could include wildlife like seagulls or fish, objects like a red hat or blue sunglasses, or seashells. Laminate the lists so they don’t get wet, and check off each item with a whiteboard marker as you spot them. For extra fun, offer a small reward to the winners.

Shell Toss Game: Do you like playing Skeeball? Then, you will enjoy The Sand’s idea for a shell toss game. Draw one or several large circles in the sand. Add smaller circles inside each big circle, similar to a dart board. Find seashells and see who can toss theirs closest to the centers.

Buried Treasure: Hunting for buried treasure is exciting. Beyond Sandcastles recommends filling a container with things your kids would like such as candy or other trinkets and burying it in the sand. Leave clues along the way and provide your kids with a map to the treasure.

DIY Matchbox Boats: Boys and girls will love digging streams and floating these little matchbox boats in our beach’s gentle current. Inspired by Familia made her children’s boats with just matchboxes, straws and cracker packages.
