Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD): This district within the Eau Gallie area of Melbourne Beach focuses on art and a nonprofit coordinates efforts to revitalize the area. You can find many art gallaries and historic buildings here. The city even dedicated a residential section of the EGAD for artists to live called the Art Overlay Zone. Don’t miss each month’s First Friday and Eau Gallie Founders’ Day on February 7th.
One must-see in the Arts District is the Fooaner Art Museum at the Florida Institute of Technology. The museum offers classes and houses a collection of “5,000 objects, spanning 2,000 years of creative history” from local and international artists. Plus, it houses the world’s largest collection of artwork created by German Impressionist Ernst Oppler. Admission is affordable and free on Thursdays.
Seeking to buy local art? Expressions of Local Art is a unique gallery that gives wings to up and coming artists. As Expressions states on their website, many artists can not find places to display their work if they haven’t already been juried for a guild. All art is local and embodies the Melbourne Beach spirit. Visit their Facebook page for the featured artist of the week.
