Tips For Creating Sandcastles Your Whole Family Will Love

There’s something about walking on a white, sandy beach that makes people of all ages want to build sandcastles. Adults have as much fun building sandcastles as children and it’s the perfect beach activity to bring together the whole family.

Here, at Tuckaway Shores, our waves are gentle and the sand is soft. We hope our guests take advantage of our ideal sandcastle building conditions, as we provide them with shovels and buckets. Here are some of our best tips to help you build the sandcastle of your dreams.

Use Lots Of Water: Don’t be afraid to use lots of water since wet sand is impossible to mold into shapes. According to serious sandcastle builders, they recommend a ratio of half water and half sand for perfect moldability. Dig a water hole near your sandcastle for even easier access to water.

Build A Base: Like real buildings, sandcastles need solid foundations. Make your flat base by mounding up wet sand and letting it drain before compacting it together. Stomping on it as you go will make the base extra solid and easier to carve.

Make Towers: Every castle needs a tower. Pack sand into buckets, cups, or whatever container strikes your fancy to make towers of varying shapes and sizes.

Mist: To keep your sand creation from drying out, Momtastic recommends misting them with a spray bottle as you work.

Add Details: Decorate your castle with seashells and driftwood and encourage your children to carve their initials into the walls. Family travel blogger Jessica of Suitcases and Sippy Cups actually went to sandcastle school and calls a plastic straw a “sand carver’s best friend.” Use it to carve sand and blow away excess sand.

The most important rule for building the perfect sandcastle is to have fun! We hope you consider Tuckaway Shores as your next vacation destination. We have a two room ocean front suite that is waiting for you. This is where you can rest between your next best sandcastle creation.
